Summary

2 November 2016

On 29 April 2016, Hon. Scott Morrison MP, Treasurer, instructed the Productivity Commission to undertake an inquiry into Australia’s human services, including health, education, and community services. The focus of the inquiry was “innovative ways to improve outcomes through introducing the principles of competition and informed user choice.” As part of the process, the Productivity Commission undertook public consultation. The RACGP provided a submission to the initial consultation in July 2016.

The Productivity Commission has subsequently released the preliminary findings report. The report identified six areas best suited to the introduction of greater competition, contestability and user choice.
