The MBS provides a reference to item numbers and billing costs
Current as of April 2020.
For Fellows of the RACGP or vocationally registered general practitioners.
The Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) is a listing of Medicare services subsidised by the Australian Government. The MBS is managed by the Department of Health and is administered by the Department of Human Services.
Currently, the MBS contains more than 5700 items and is over 1300 pages long, outlining all Medicare item numbers for GPs, specialists and other health practitioners.
The RACGP’s MBS fee summary aims to provide RACGP members with a quick and easy reference to item numbers relevant to general practice. It is revised and published annually, or as major updates to GP specific MBS items are announced.
GPs should be familiar with the full description in the MBS for each item number used.
