The RACGP is proud to have a 40-year history of formal and informal relationships with similar colleges around the world, and we’re extremely excited to collaborate with our network to progress global primary healthcare standards.

The RACGP is looking forward to developing an international membership community. Whether you’re looking to enhance your medical skills and knowledge, build a global professional network in primary care or one day make the move to practise as a GP in Australia, we’re committed to supporting you every step of the way.

If you’re practising outside Australia for more than 50% of the year with a valid international medical registration, you can apply for our RACGP overseas membership and enjoy the benefits of belonging to one of the largest specialist medical colleges in the world.

If you’re studying or in a training program and working towards a career in general practice in Australia, you can join our student or international medical graduate (IMG) membership categories to build a network of like-minded colleagues.

Frequently asked questions

To join the RACGP, use our membership selector and follow the steps.

If you’re a GP that holds valid medical registration and lives overseas for the majority of the financial year, you’re eligible for an overseas membership.

If you’re an overseas medical practitioner living in Australia but haven’t yet obtained medical registration, you’re eligible for an IMG membership.

If you’re studying or in a training program and working towards a career in general practice, you’re eligible for a student or IMG membership.

  • We recommend you include the following with your membership application.
  • A copy of your primary medical degree (officially translated into English, if necessary)
  • Your medical registration number
  • A copy of your current overseas medical registration certificate/card (officially translated into English, if necessary)
  • A letter of good standing from the registering body (officially translated into English, if necessary) – this is an essential requirement if the overseas medical registration was issued more than two years ago

Overseas

We recommend you include the following with your membership application.
  • A copy of your international medical registration certificate/card (officially translated into English, if necessary)
  • Verification of your alliance college membership
  • A letter of good standing from the registering body (officially translated into English, if necessary) – this is an essential requirement if the overseas medical registration was issued more than two years ago

Yes, you can rejoin the RACGP at any time. Just contact our Member Services Team at membership@racgp.org.au

You can resign your membership, but you’ll need to discuss your continuing professional development (CPD) requirements with us if you have CPD obligations.

We can't put your membership on hold, but we can offer additional time to pay your fees, such as an instalment plan.

Overseas – International membership

The RACGP has partnered with several international colleges to form an alliance, which includes reciprocal membership offers. If you hold a current membership with one of the following colleges, you’re eligible for a discounted RACGP overseas membership.

  • Hong Kong College of Family Physicians
  • Academy of Family Physicians of Malaysia
  • Fiji College of General Practitioners
  • College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan
