Dr Carl Jansz

The main reason I became involved in the RACGP Victoria Council is Advocacy.

My top priority is to ensure that general practitioners working at the coalface have their concerns heard and addressed and their interests championed now and into the future. I see my main roles on Council as:

  1. Advocacy for General Practice as a profession and for RACGP members’ interests.
  2. Setting and maintaining reasonable standards for quality care throughout the profession.
  3. Involvement in education before and after attaining Fellowship of RACGP.

My RACGP involvement has included the following:

  • working group for Voluntary Assisted Dying (2018/2019)
  • representative role in RACGP/WorkSafe collaborative project to improve recovery outcomes for injured workers (2021 ongoing)
  • RACGP clinical indicators pilot project (2013/2014)
  • RACGP examiner (2011 ongoing)

I graduated from Medicine in 1993 at Monash University (MBBS, Honours) after completing my primary and secondary school education at schools in the Bayside area. I commenced the Family Medicine Programme (FMP) in 1996 and obtained my RACGP Fellowship (FRACGP) in 1999. I currently work at the Bayside practice of Durrant Medical Clinic in Brighton where I have been since 2001. My practice is by and large Family Medicine with special interests in Mental Health and Travel Medicine. Ours is a teaching practice with mentoring and supervision of Registrars-in-Training and medical students.

My interests outside of Medicine include spending quality time with my family, listening to popular music, supporting AFL, and coaching junior community cricket.

It has been a rewarding experience to continuously serve the RACGP Victoria Council since 2012. I look forward to continuing to make a difference.
