Providing solutions to help you fulfil your CPD requirements

The RACGP has taken the MBA’s requirements and worked them in to a CPD program that recognises the work you do in your everyday practice. You can choose from a range of tailored CPD solutions to find a range of activities and learning opportunities that suit your scope of practice – and help you reach your CPD goals.

The RACGP is your CPD Home. We recognise the CPD you do in practice and have tailored your CPD program to your scope and the way you work, providing the technology you need and access to thousands of activities across the breadth of General Practice.

Your CPD program comprises the following requirements.

  1. The minimum requirements for your annual CPD are 50 hours of CPD across three activity types - Educational Activities, Reviewing Performance and Measuring Outcomes
  2. Program-level requirements are:
    1. Culturally Safe Practice
    2. Health Inequities
    3. Professionalism
    4. Ethical Practice

Each year, you must include at least one activity in your CPD that addresses each of these areas. It can be an ‘in practice’ activity or a specific learning objective and may combine one or more of these elements or address them separately. It’s up to you and should be considered in relation to your individual needs. Please visit our program-level requirements page for further information

  1.  High-level requirements

Some specialist colleges have high level requirements approved by the MBA. These relate to the outcomes of training to achieve specialist registration in the relevant specialty.

For General Practice, you need to complete CPR each triennium.

If you hold a dual Fellowship i.e. you belong to another Specialist Medical College, you must check whether your other Specialist College has any approved High-Level requirements. Here’s a link to the MBA guidelines.

Each College that has an MBA approved Specialist High Level Requirement will have resources specific to this requirement. You can engage with the college that holds your dual Fellowship or complete independent learning as long as it meets the requirements as described in the MBA guidelines.

Once you have completed the Specialist High Level requirement for your dual Fellowship, you can upload the evidence and appropriate CPD hours through myCPD.

Contact details for each of the Colleges are available here.

Each calendar year you will need to record 50 hours of CPD across different activity types. There are some required activity types, but also flexibility in how you make up some of your hours.

NB. You’ll note the change from points in previous years.

As a requirement of the Medical Board, you will also need to complete a Professional Development Plan (PDP) each year.

We have created a simple tool on the myCPD Dashboard to make the process easy for you. Watch this video on how to start your PDP.

GPs are required to develop and improve their practice by engaging in at least one relevant CPD activity in the following areas each year. This CPD is part of the annual 50 hours requirement, not additional.

  • Culturally safe practice
  • Health inequities
  • Professionalism and
  • ethical practice
These requirements can be found in section C3, Criteria for AMC Accreditation of CPD Homes.

Please visit our program-level requirements page for further information.

Each triennium, you will need to complete a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) course. While the other tasks are annual, you will have three years to update your CPR skills (between 2023 and 2025). This is an RACGP high-level requirement, as approved by the MBA. We will also accept other courses that meet the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines such as BLS and ALS courses which include CPR. The Medical Board of Australia has determined that all CPR courses will only be eligible for hours under the Educational Activities CPD type.

Evidence of your annual CPD activities must be retained for three years. See evidence guide here.

RACGP's myCPD is more than a tracker, myCPD is designed to offer you peace of mind – so you can find and complete accredited activities, knowing that your evidence automatically uploads to your myCPD home.

Using your phone’s camera in conjunction with our myCPD app enables you to attach evidence of CPD you do on the go in your workday. Any evidence you upload to myCPD home will be retained on your myCPD home. Download it now.

There will be times that uploading evidence of your CPD activity is not suitable (e.g. if it contains patient/sensitive information). We recommend uploading only deidentified data or complete a reflection on what you’ve learned or changes you’ve made to your practise. In those instances ensure you keep adequate records of your CPD activities for three years following the relevant CPD year.

More information on the MBA requirements for evidencing CPD for audit purposes is available.
