Expression of interest

Advanced Skills Training will provide the opportunity for 300 GPs across the country to develop their alcohol and other drug skills, dedicating 20 hours of continuous professional development to a specific set of AOD skills and competencies.

Advanced Skills participants will be required to identify and nominate a suitability qualified AOD professional to become their Advanced Skills mentor. The mentor will assist the participant as they develop their personalised learning plan, and provide a minimum of 6 hours of targeted support whilst the participant completes their plan. The RACGP will support rural and remote GPs to find a suitable mentor where local treatment services are limited.

Advanced Skills mentors will receive a one-off reimbursement payment of $1,500 (including superannuation and subject to relevant taxation) upon completion of a mentor report at the end of the program. GPs who complete Advanced Skills will receive a one-off payment of $2,500 upon completion of their personalised learning plan.

AOD Connect: Project ECHO is a weekly AOD case-based discussion and peer-to-peer learning forum that utilises the well-evidenced Project ECHO methodology. AOD Connect will be available to over 43,000 members nationally. RACGP members can register their interest and attend as their schedule permits. Session numbers will be capped at 35 participants to enable meaningful case discussion and participant engagement.

The RACGP AOD Connect: Project ECHO series will be available in a virtual environment every Thursday evening from 7.30pm-8.30pm AEST and commenced on Thursday 23 July 2020.

The AOD Connect: Project ECHO expert panel is composed of AOD expert GPs, Addiction Medicine specialists and other AOD related professionals from across the country. Panel composition changes regularly to allow for a wide range of expert involvement on a wide variety of AOD related topics.

The RACGP is looking to develop a range of publically available practical resources for GPs. The RACGP would like to engage a wide range of specialists in each state/territory to discuss referral pathways and other tips based on resources available in their area. This could involve taking part in a podcast, writing a short article or discussion piece, or taking part in a video recording that could be uploaded to the RACGP AOD website.
