Welcome to the FSP

The Fellowship Support Program (FSP) is a comprehensive self-funded rural education and training program that gives doctors the skills, confidence and support to achieve Fellowship and build a thriving, sustainable career in general practice. It includes self-directed in-practice learning and workplace-based assessments (WBAs) to provide feedback and monitor progress. Registrars work under supervision in accredited training practices.

Changes to the FSP

To ensure applicants are well supported and best placed to achieve Fellowship, the RACGP is introducing important updates to the FSP.

Following consultation and review throughout 2025, key requirements are being strengthened to improve quality, consistency and support. These changes will be introduced in phases over three application periods: 2026.1, 2026.2 and 2027.1.

  • 2026.1: The training site and supervisor nominated by the applicant must be accredited against the RACGP standards for general practice training.
  • 2026.2: All FSP applicants are required to complete the national entry assessment to support transparent and consistent selection.
  • 2027.1: An uplifted FSP structure will be introduced, providing stronger early support, enhanced education and training, and closer alignment with RACGP training frameworks.
