Started an AGPT application?

Applications to the RACGP AGPT Program can be made as early as intern year.

There are two application intakes when you can apply for the AGPT Program:

  • Main application intake – all training places available
  • Second application intake – limited training places available

Find out more about 2027 AGPT key application and selection dates.

In your application, you’ll be asked to provide information relating to your:

  • Residency
  • Medical registration
  • Primary medical qualification
  • Previous or current specialist medical training experience
  • Training region and pathway preferences
  • Priority preference attributes (where applicable).

There’s no cost to making an application, however if your application is deemed eligible and you progress to the national entry assessment, you’ll need to pay a $190 assessment fee.

If you’re successful in being made a training offer, you’ll be required to pay a $525 offer acceptance fee.

In your application you’ll be able to nominate up to six training pathway and region preferences.

Training places

Information about available training places by pathway and region will be available closer to the opening date of each application intake.

Training region preferences

The AGPT Program offers a unique opportunity to build your skills in a safe, supported environment. To make the most of it, we encourage you to explore our training regions and the opportunities available.

You’ll also need to ensure you understand and can meet the training location commitments required for your preferred region prior to nominating your preferences in our 2027 AGPT Program Guide.

There are other factors you’ll also need to consider. Find out more here.

Changing your preferences

If your application is deemed eligible, you’ll be able to see the number of training region and pathway preferences made by other eligible applicants compared to places available, and you can choose to change your preferences (optional) during the training preference change window.

General and rural pathways

  • There are two types of pathways – general and rural pathway:
    • General pathway registrars can train across metropolitan, rural and remote areas.
    • Rural pathway registrars train only in rural areas (classified as MM 2-7). Doctors affected by the 10-year moratorium can only apply for the rural pathway.
