This nickel-plated brass tongue depressor was made in the 1930’s. It folds easily and could be readily slipped into the doctor’s pocket or bag. It could also be easily cleaned and sterilised after use.
Metal tongue depressors were widely used in general practice before being replaced by disposable wooden tongue depressors such as are now used.
