Chronic kidney disease (CKD) management in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have a greatly increased prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and are approximately five times more likely than non-Indigenous Australians to develop end-stage kidney failure. Research suggests that CKD is significantly under-recognised and under-treated in the primary care setting. However, if early-stage CKD is detected and managed appropriately, the deterioration of kidney function can be reduced and may even be reversible in some cases.

The module explores the application of CKD guidelines for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population.
