Kirsty Jennings is a Biripi/ Worimi woman whose career has been dedicated to advancing the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Trained initially as a social worker, she worked extensively in rural Aboriginal mental health and community health services before pursuing medicine. She later completed her medical training and became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
Kirsty currently lectures in Indigenous Health within the University of Newcastle’s Joint Medical Program, where she teaches future clinicians to deliver culturally responsive and community-centred care. Alongside her academic role, she works as a General Practitioner in the Port Stephens region and serves as a Staff Specialist in Primary Health with Justice Health, contributing to health equity for people within the custodial system.
She is the Deputy Chair of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Council for the RACGP and a Director on the Board of Burrun Dalai Aboriginal Corporation for Out-of-Home Care, providing strategic leadership to organisations focused on strengthening community, culture, and families.
Kirsty’s career reflects a longstanding commitment to cultural advocacy, clinical excellence, and improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
