Summary

The Department of Health/Cultural Fusion have developed a draft National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce Strategic Framework and Implementation Plan 2021-2031 following several months of consultation.
Key issues raised in the submission include:
- need for greater investment in the roles of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers/Practitioners and Cultural Educators and Mentors
- better understanding of the unique circumstances for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students/learners and tailored support (professional and cultural) throughout schooling and afterwards
- need for more training opportunities in ACCHOs across all health professions, which requires additional support and capacity building for the ACCHOs.
