Submission to Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) consultation on re-authorisation of Medicines Australia’s (MA) voluntary industry code
30 July 2014
The ACCC is consulting on Medicine Australia’s application for re-authorisation of its voluntary industry code of conduct for the prescription medicines industry. The code sets out standards of conduct for the activities of companies when engaged in the promotion of prescription products used under medical supervision as permitted by Australian legislation. In our submission we recommend that the ACCC does not authorise MA’s revised version of the code (Edition 18) because it does not actually provide transparency and because it has ignored all the recommendations made by the independent Transparency Working Group.
