About this committee
The RACGP strongly advocates for GPs and general practice, promoting the importance of patient safety, quality care, coordination of care, whole patient care, better recognition and reward for GPs, and investment into primary healthcare infrastructure, teams, training, and technology.
The role of the RACGP Expert Committee – Funding and Health System Reform (REC-FHSR) is to:
- support the implementation of the Vision for general practice and a sustainable healthcare system
- provide input into submissions and position papers related to GP system funding and health reform,
- offer informed advice on health system reform and funding, workforce and compliance
- develop and update existing tools and resources that support advocacy and business sustainability,
- maintain a close working relationship between GPs, GP organisations and the Commonwealth Governments, as directed
Strategic directions
The RACGP has four strategic priorities. These are:
- Deliver exceptional membership experiences and value
- Advocate for quality, well-funded general practice to remain at the heart of effective Australian healthcare
- Develop and implement a nation‑leading education framework for general practice
- Strive for excellence in delivering world‑class services by reinforcing a strong, lean and effective RACGP that will always work for Australia’s GPs
The following core values underpin the work of the REC-FHSR:
- Adequate remuneration and professional support for GPs
- An adequately supplied general practice workforce
- High patient access to general practice, especially for those who may be disadvantaged
- A close working relationship between GPs, GP organisations and the federal Government
