The Rural Education Committee is a sub-committee of the RACGP Rural Council and provides direction to RACGP Rural on education, general practice vocational training and the Fellowship in Advanced Rural General Practice (FARGP).

The Rural Education Committee will:
- Enhance excellence and innovation in rural general practice training and education by contributing advice to the development and implementation of:
- standards
- curriculum
- assessments
- quality assurance
- continuing professional development activities.
- Provide advice to the RACGP Rural Council and RACGP Rural on the education strategy for the Fellowship in Advanced Rural General Practice (FARGP), FRACGP-RG and other related rural educational initiatives.
- Proactively develop new strategies to support the provision of general practice education in rural and remote communities across Australia.
- Provide advice to the RACGP on initiatives related to the Joint Consultative Committees (JCC)
- Consider any other matters pertinent to rural general practice education and training, and rural workforce issues as required or as delegated by the RACGP Rural Council, RACGP Education and Workforce Committee or RACGP Management.
The Rural Education Committee meets face-to-face once a year and by teleconference three to four times a year. Rural Education Committee terms are for three years, with a maximum of two consecutive three year terms allowed.
