Scholarship opportunities

RACGP Queensland is offering limited, but heavily-discounted places for Queensland GPs in Modified Monash Model (MMM) 2-7 to complete the Focussed Psychological Strategies (FPS) CPD case-based discussions package designed to support GPs who are already FPS providers in implementing FPS with patients, evaluating their practice, and further developing their skills.

Each scholarship will reduce registration to $50 (full value $395) to complete the course with RACGP. You will be required to register and pay the full amount. Once the workshop has been completed and you receive your certificate of attainment, you will be refunded $345.

This program is funded by the generosity of the Dr Bruce Roberts’ bequest, donated to RACGP Queensland to develop and support ongoing education initiatives for GPs living and working in regional, rural and remote Queensland communities.

About the Focussed Psychological Strategies (FPS) CPD case-based discussions package

This activity is offered via the Zoom platform and comprises of four two-hour case-based discussion sessions. This course is for GPs who have completed Level 1 Mental Health Skills Training and Level 2 Focussed Psychological Strategies (FPS) Skills Training and are using FPS in their practice. Registrants will be asked to select their group session times from an available list. Each participant will present a case and through these case discussions participants will extend their FPS skills by exploring the intervention methods they currently use, critically reviewing challenging cases, and developing strategies for addressing barriers to achieving best practice.

This course provides a clear, viable mental health skill acquisition pathway for GPs consisting of a series of thought-provoking, small group case-based discussion sessions facilitated by a GP with specialist experience in mental health.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:

  1. Evaluate the provision of Focussed Psychological Strategies (FPS) in the context of general practice
  2. Reflect on FPS service provision based on feedback and critical review
  3. Create a plan for own further professional development in the context of the provision of FPS
  4. Create a plan for own self-care in the context of the provision of FPS.

Access to the grant

Participants must meet the eligibility criteria
This course is for GPs who:

  • have completed Level 1 Mental Health Skills Training and Level 2 Focussed Psychological Strategies Skills Training (FPS ST)
  • are using FPS in their practice
  •  have a requirement to complete FPS CPD to maintain their registration with Medicare Australia as a GP provider of FPS.

Participants who wish to access bequest for the FPS CPD case-based discussion must be an RACGP member currently living and  working in Queensland as a GP in- training or general practitioner, or GP Registar. within Queensland

The bequest scholarships are only available to RACGP members who are practising in rural/remote areas MMM 2-7 in Queensland who intend to continue working in a rural Queensland MMM 2-7 location after completing the course.

To apply for funding, RACGP members must complete an online expression of interest form.

Applications are assessed by the RACGP and approved applicants will be accepted to the program.

Once approved by the RACGP, the applicant will have up to seven (7) business days to register for an available intake and to pay the full amount. Once you have completed the workshop, you will be refunded for all amounts paid over $50. 

By applying to access the FPS CPD case-based discussions, the applicant provides consent for the RACGP to share information with third parties consistent with the purposes of assessing eligibility, delivering, and reporting the outcomes of the workshop

Registrations and Cancellations

Once accepted and registered for the workshop, all cancellations or amendments must be made in writing to qld.bequest@racgp.org.au.

Participants are required to contact the RACGP with requests to withdraw from the workshop a minimum of seven (7) business days before the workshop date.
 
For participants who reschedule in writing at least seven business days in advance of the start of the workshop may be able to register for an alternative workshop, pending availability.

Completion of the program

To successfully complete FPS CPD case-based discussions, participants will be required to complete attend and actively participate in all four, two-hour teleconferences, all associated pre and post reading, CPD activities and an evaluation survey of the program.

Bequest  funds will not be available for partial or incomplete completion of the workshop.

Upon completion of the program, participants will be provided with a Certificate of Completion and will also be required to complete an evaluation survey.

Application form submission

When applying for the FPS CPD online package you must declare that:

  • You have read the Terms and Conditions and meet the eligibility criteria.

  • You will adhere to all FPS CPD case-based discussion requirements as outlined by the RACGP.
  • You will notify the RACGP in writing before the start of your scheduled intake should you need to cancel or amend your workshop participation and understand that you will not be refunded. 
  • The information provided in your application is true and correct at the point of application.

CPD

The FPS CPD case-based discussions is a hybrid activity under the RACGP CPD 2026-2028 Triennium. A total of 9 hours of Reviewing Performance. It is also accredited as an FPS CPD course by the General Practice Mental Health Standards Collaboration (GPMHSC) for the 2026-2028 triennium.
