CPD for general practitioners is changing in 2023.
Many of you have asked whether existing training programs can be accredited as CPD for doctors. As the CPD changes come into effect, we will continue to review programs under the new system.
There will be no mandated minimum requirement of supervisor professional development (PD) in 2023 for currently accredited supervisors. We will consult with supervisors to determine national supervisor PD expectations from 2024.
Our 2023 approach
- Currently accredited supervisors: Supervisor professional development (PD) won’t have a mandated minimum requirement in 2023.
- Get to know the RACGP: We'll provide resources and education for in-practice teaching, workplace-based assessments and reporting requirements.
- Get to know our practices: We’ll contact practices frequently and where possible, we'll visit.
- Learn from one another: We’ll bring supervisors together with their peers at our 'local supervisor peer support' meetings.
- Continue supervisor PD activities: We'll provide online learning modules, webinars and regional workshops.
- Previous PD: We'll recognise GP supervisor previously completed PD.
- New supervisor learning: From 2023, new supervisors must complete a Foundations of GP Supervision course before receiving their accreditation.
- 2024 PD expectations: National supervisor PD expectations for accredited supervisors, from 2024, are yet to be determined. We’ll be consulting with supervisors about these decisions.

Supervisor PD Support
In addition to the Nationally Consistent Payments from 1 February 2023, supervisors also have access to Supervisor PD payments. To support a smooth transition to GP training, the RACGP will fund four hours professional development up front to be paid in March 2023.
