GP16 national conference for general practice ends: spotlight on Sydney for GP17

GP16 Australia’s most important annual meeting for the general practice profession, which brought together the nation’s leading GPs and health professionals, concluded in Perth today. Sydney was revealed as the host of next year’s conference.

“We had a record number of attendees this year with more than 1700 delegates, making GP16 the country’s largest and most successful conference ever for general practice,” newly inaugurated RACGP president Dr Bastian Seidel said.

“Talking to my colleagues over the past days reaffirms my belief that the RACGP’s annual conference is the essential national platform for general practice and that is becoming even more relevant year by year.”

One of the highlights of GP16 was a moving keynote speech by family violence campaigner and 2015 Australian of the Year, Rosie Batty. The conference presented to the profession an extraordinary range of topics and issues that sit at the heart of general practice generating a flurry of social media activity.

“By talking openly about our views and confronting difficult issues, such as inadequate Government funding and investment for general practice, we are helping to shape the future of Australia’s healthcare system,” Dr Seidel said.

“I very much expect and hope that GP17 in Sydney will be as stimulating and as successful.”

GP17 – the RACGP’s annual conference for general practice – runs from 26 – 28 October 2017 at the International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney). Visit the GP17 website gp17.com.au/ for more information.
