Close the Gap and Closing the Gap – What's the difference

The Close the Gap campaign and the Closing the Gap strategy were established in response to a 2005 social justice report that called for the improvement of the health status of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The Council of Australian Governments (COAG) is currently undertaking the Closing the Gap Refresh in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and their representatives, which has led many to ask the question, ‘What’s the difference between Close the Gap and Closing the Gap?’

The Close the Gap Steering Committee has developed a guide to help understand the important difference. Visit the RACGP website to download the guide.

AusVaxSafety resources now available to order

AusVaxSafety is a national system for monitoring vaccine safety in Australia. Resources for AusVaxSafety and vaccine preventable diseases have been produced by the Department of Health (DoH) for health professionals.

The DoH released the first annual report from the Vaccine safety in Australia AusVaxSafety summary report 2016-17 in late 2018, which summarises information from parents and carers who responded to an SMS about their child's health a few days after receiving a vaccine at routine National Immunisation Program (NIP) schedule points in 2016–17.

An individual resource is available for each schedule point to support the presentation of relevant data.

Visit the DoH website to download or order the resources.

Conversations with vaccine-hesitant parents – webinar

The seminar/webinar will run Monday 18 February 2019, 1.00 pm – 2.00 pm (AEDT) at the Kids Research Seminar Room, Westmead New South Wales.

Visit the NCIRS website to register your attendance.
