Clinical Competency Exam

About the Clinical Competency Exam

The Clinical Competency Exam (CCE) is the final exam on the pathway to Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP). The CCE is a new exam for the 2021.2 cycle and replaces the long-standing Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE), and the interim Remote Clinical Exam (RCE).

The CCE will be delivered over two consecutive weekends in November. Due to ongoing COVID-19 uncertainty, the inaugural CCE will be delivered entirely remotely. By making the decision to move to remote delivery early, we can give reassurance that the exam will continue regardless of travel restrictions, venue conditions or lockdowns.

How it works

Candidates will be presented with nine clinical cases – four case discussions and five clinical encounters. Each case will be 15 minutes in duration plus reading time. Different cases will be presented across each day. Cases across each exam day will test the same skills and competencies at Fellowship standard. For more details on multiple-day delivery, see the 2020.2 Remote Clinical Exam public report.

We ask candidates to keep both exam weekends listed below free until notified of their individual exam days and sessions. Candidates will be allocated one exam session for the case discussion component of the exam in the first weekend, and one session for the clinical encounters component in the second weekend. Each exam session will be up to three hours. Exam sessions will be allocated at the close of enrolments and will be communicated to candidates in the week commencing 4 October 2021.
