Policy Update Notice - AGPT practice and supervisor handbook

This notice advises that the RACGP has updated the AGPT practice and supervisor handbook. The updated handbook (version 10) will come into immediate effect, superseding the previous versions of the handbook as of Monday, 12 February 2024.

  • References to the primary supervisor were amended to the designated supervisor.
  • Removal of references to secondary supervisors.
  • Alignment with the RACGP’s approach to supervision.

Supervisor-to-registrar ratios

  • Updated information included regarding allowable ratios in the supervisor role.
  • Previously the RACGP did not clearly state the supervisor-to-registrar ratios in this handbook. It has been updated to provide clarity to supervisors and practices around the expectations of supervisors and what contributes to the ratio.

Placement process

  • Updated information to align with the codes and principles for training sites and supervisors.
  • Alignment with the codes and principles for training sites and supervisors.

Provide orientation and initial supervision plan

  • Updated information regarding EASL requirements.
  • There are updated EASL requirements.

Provide in-practice teaching

  • Included requirements for completion of assessments.
  • It is important supervisors are clear about their obligations for completing assessments.

Contribute to assessment

Addition of information about the following assessments, including background to assessment, requirements for assessment and how the supervisor should submit the assessment:

  • Mini-CEX
  • RCA

Updated information for the following existing assessments including requirements for assessment:

  • Change of language from mid-term and end-of-term appraisals to mid-term and end-of-term assessments
  • ECTV aligned with WBA handbook
  • For the 2024 training year, there is updated information and requirements for supervisors completing these assessments. This information has been updated to align with these refreshed requirements.

Engage in professional development

Alignment of information with 2024 supervisor professional development requirements for existing supervisors and new supervisors.

Information included about supervisor professional development stipends available.
  • The professional development requirements have been updated to reflect what is expected of supervisors for the 2024 training year and include updated information about financial arrangements for participation.

Payments to practices and supervisors

Updated information about nationally consistent information

Updated information about additional payments made by the RACGP and links to relevant information.
  • With the commencement of the 2024 year, there are updates to the Flexible Funds Policy and nationally consistent payments which have been reflected in the handbook.
