The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) and the Medical Board of Australia have commissioned an independent review of the regulation of health practitioners in cosmetic surgery. Our response highlights the impact of the ad hoc uptake of the Medical Board Guidelines on patient safety, data for monitoring cosmetic surgery notifications, the need to restrict marketing on social media platforms and improve public education and awareness. We recommend effective implementation of existing codes and guides.
