RACGP Response: National Data Security Action Plan

Last updated 10 January 2023

The RACGP has provided a response to The Department of Home Affairs discussion paper, providing comment on matters relating to the development of the National Data Security Action Plan (the Action Plan). The paper is focused on data security policy settings for state and territory governments, industry and the broader economy.

In the response, the RACGP supports in principle, the development of the proposed National Data Security Action Plan. These efforts must be in close consultation with the RACGP to ensure the approach is workable for general practice.

Data has never been more valuable, with insufficiently secured big data sets being highly attractive to cyber criminals. To support greater data security across all sectors, including general practice, it is critical the Australian Government, take prompt steps to provide a tailored, targeted and supportive approach to ensure data is prioritised for enhanced data security across the nation, including health data.
