Summary

The RACGP has provided a submission to the public consultation for Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Appropriate Use of Psychotropic Medications in People Living with Dementia and in Residential Aged Care.

The RACGP response highlights recommendations and comments in relation to several of the good practice statements and recommendations, and advises the adoption of an implementation plan and inclusion of further information on:

  • non-pharmacological management of behaviours
  • other medications for the treatment of Dementia
  • a statement about areas out of scope of the Guideline.
