The RACGP has made a submission to the Nursing and Midwifery Board’s public consultation regarding their proposal to allow registered nurses to prescribe in partnership with authorised prescribers.
In the NMBA’s proposal, a partner prescriber is considered to be a health practitioner who is an authorised autonomous prescriber; this includes GPs, but also other medical practitioners, including nurse practitioners. As a result, prescribing under this model could occur independent of the patient's GP. The RACGP did not support the proposal and outlines several concerns in the below submission.
