Submission to the Senate Community Affairs References Committee inquiry into the My Health Record

Last updated 30 May 2019

Summary

7 September 2018

Originally launched in 2012 as the Personally Controlled Electronic Health Record (PCEHR), My Health Record is Australia’s national eHealth record system.

The Australian Government announced that in 2018, every person with a Medicare or Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) card will automatically have one created for them, unless they choose to opt out of the system.

Following the opt-out period commencing significant media was generated regarding the system and the Senate referred the My Health Record system to the Community Affairs References Committee for inquiry. The RACGP provided a written submission on My Health Record addressing expected benefits, the move to an opt-out model, privacy and security, government administration and community concerns.
