On Saturday 28 October 2017 the RACGP officially launched its guidance for GPs on prescribing opioid therapy, which includes a focus on concerns of clinical governance in handover standards in hospitals for patients on opioid therapy.

The RACGP has sought support from a number of professional bodies to improve discharge planning for patients on opioid therapy.

Letters were sent to: the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia; the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators; the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons; the Royal Australasian College of Physicians; and the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia.
