Consultations close: 26 March 2023
The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) is updating its definition of a general practice for the purpose of accreditation (the definition) to ensure all general practices providing comprehensive, patient-centred, whole-person and continuous care are eligible for accreditation against the Standards for general practices (5th edition).
We recognise that the current definition excludes some practices that provide crucial services to the community, including residential aged care facility and outreach services. Consultation with the profession informed our decision to update the definition. With support from the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC) and Department of Health and Aged Care, we’re consulting on a proposed new definition.
We are seeking your feedback on the draft definition, whether your practice is currently accredited or not. Your feedback will inform the implementation of a new definition, extending access to accreditation to all general practice services.
