This audit aims to identify patients in your practice who have been diagnosed with mental health issues and have been receiving mental health treatment for the last 12–18 months.

The audit process will allow general practitioners (GPs) to then select 10 of these patients and analyse in detail the strengths and weaknesses of the Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) in correlation with other factors impacting the patients. GPs can assess their clinical skills, research the effectiveness of the treatment strategies and identify any gaps in the GP’s mental health training.

 The analysis and conclusions can consequently help improve the provision of high-quality care for the practice’s entire mental health patient population through strengthened team-based care.

By the end of this audit, you’ll be able to:

1. Identify patient population who have been treated for mental health issues in the past 12 to 18 months

2. Review 10 mental health treatment plans and evaluate the provision of care provided

3. Retrospectively assess the outcomes of the mental health treatment

4. Develop and implement strategies to improve the quality of care provided to the target group

5. Evaluate the impact of the newly implemented strategies in the practice.
