The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) welcomes the opportunity to provide a submission to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) on the new power to issue interim prohibition orders (IPOs).

The RACGP is generally supportive of the draft wording for the new chapter on IPOs to be incorporated into Ahpra’s Regulatory Guide, noting that:

  • the language is clear and easy to understand
  • there appears to be due process and appropriate safeguards built in
  • it is important to be able to prohibit high risk health-related activities of unregistered practitioners.

The RACGP also believes expired IPOs should remain visible on the register and requests clarity on this from Ahpra.
