The RACGP has provided a submission to the Department of Home Affairs and the National Emergency Management Agency consultation on ‘Alternative Commonwealth Capabilities for Crisis Response’. The discussion paper called for views on the capabilities that the Commonwealth Government needs to have to support state and territory-led crisis response and recovery efforts as an alternative to the Australian Defence Force.
GPs are essential in supporting communities before, during and in the aftermath of a disaster. The RACGP provides a range of recommendations that the Commonwealth Government could implement which would support GPs and general practice to prepare, respond, and recover from disasters and emergencies and support the viability of practices in disaster-prone areas.
