Membership of the RACGP
The RACGP offers a range of services to assist your professional development and many of these services are free to RACGP members.
The RACGP has an integral role in advocating on a range of primary issues in the profession, including health reform, the Medicare Benefits Scheme and national registration. Such issues influence the ability of GPs and their practice staff to provide safe and quality care. Your membership is vital in strengthening the college's voice in this important advocacy work. We also encourage members to participate in advocating and invite you to provide your own input into college submissions, review RACGP policy papers and submissions, or by voicing your opinion through your local RACGP Faculty Board or committees. Find out more...
The RACGP develops and maintains the standards for GP training and education (from undergraduate education to early postgraduate years and beyond) and as such offers a range of education services, products, and workshops to assist GPs in upholding these standards, maintaining their professional development, and with their day-to-day patient care. The RACGP recognises the importance of, and is paving the way to, a robust electronic health (e-health) system for Australia. The college will be developing some comprehensive tools to help you implement e-health initiatives in your practice. The RACGP is committed to further assisting and guiding you along your path of professional development. The college understands the importance of providing members with a ‘point of contact' in every state and believes it is important that members have a ‘local meeting place' to discuss important matters. Members of the RACGP are automatically granted membership of their state/territory faculty. Members are also able to join the RACGP's National Rural Faculty, Faculty of Specific Interests and National Faculty of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health. Find out more...
The RACGP understands that GPs are often faced with growing demands and stress in their professional and clinical roles. In line with the college's commitment to encourage a culture of self care among GPs, the RACGP offers members free confidential counselling and support through our GP Support Program. This confidential service, delivered by registered psychologists, enables RACGP members (who are Australian registered GPs) to access free telephone or face-to-face counselling. Find out more...
