Certificate in Primary Care - Skin Cancer Management
No date has been set for the 3rd intake. RACGP is currently in discussions with the ACD regarding this matter with a view of revamping the course to create formal post graduation qualifications. This website will be updated when further information becomes available.
Overview
This comprehensive certificate course has been developed through a new special interest education partnership between the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and the Australasian College of Dermatologists, and is the prerequisite to the planned Certificate in Primary Care – Dermatology course.
This certificate course consists of six modules including:

Procedural skills grant eligibility
The Australian Government is offering rural and remote procedural GP surgeon’s assistance to access skills maintenance and upskilling training activities in their respective disciplines. General practitioner surgeons who attend Module 5: Dermatological Surgery and Procedures workshop may be eligible for a support grant of $2,000 per day. QA&CPD
Each module of this course has been approved by the RACGP QA&CPD Program for 40 Category 1 Active Learning Module points. Upon completion of the Certificate (all six modules), participants will have earned a total of 240 Category 1 Active Learning Module points.
Category 1 points will be allocated when the predisposing activity, module content, and reinforcing activity are completed online, as well as any module specific learning objectives which need to be fulfilled (e.g. completion of a logbook for Module 6: Clinical Attachment with a Dermatologist).

- The RACGP is currently working with the Australasian College of Dermatologists to develop a new education program Certificate in Primary Care – Dermatology. All participants who complete the Certificate in Primary Care – Skin Cancer Management will meet the eligibility criteria for applying to undertake the Certificate in Primary Care – Dermatology, and be contacted immediately following completion of this new program.
- Participants will be contacted regarding any new Dermatology and Skin Cancer Management workshop programs held by the RACGP.

Terms and Conditions
Cancellation Policy
This policy details information relating to the program tuition fees and conditions, and the circumstances under which refunds are paid and calculated
- Program fees cover access to online modules and help desk services; moderator, face-to-face workshops; clinical placement fees; and case reviews.
- Associated program costs such as travel, accommodation and other materials are to be covered by the Registrant.
- Registration in the program will be confirmed upon receipt of the enrolment form and full program fees by the RACGP.
- Registrants are required to complete all online modules, before commencing Module 5 (Dermatological Surgery and Procedures Workshop) and Module 6 (Clinical Attachment).
- A full refund of fees will be payable when an offer of placement is withdrawn or in the unlikely event the College is unable to provide the program.
- A partial refund of 90% of tuition fees will be available on written application to the RACGP where a Registrant withdraws within 14 days of enrolment in the program
- A partial refund of 50% of tuition fees will be available on written application to the RACGP where a Registrant withdraws after 14 days of enrolment and prior to 90 days of the commencement date of Module 5 (Face to Face Workshop scheduled for 27th-29th March 2009) and no refund will apply for any application received thereafter (‘the cancellation fee’)
- No refund will apply for any application received where a Registrant withdraws (formally or without notice) from the program within 89 days of the commencement of module 5
- The Registrant acknowledges that the cancellation fee is not a penalty but is a genuine pre-estimate of the loss and damage caused by the late cancellation.
- Should any Registrant wish to appeal the non refundable cancellation fee the Registrant must do so within 2 weeks of written advice of cancellation being received by the Manager, Education Programs, RACGP, 1 Palmerston Crescent, South Melbourne, 3205. In the event of an appeal the Registrant will be required to complete and submit a ‘Statutory Declaration’ to the Manager, Education Programs and Services, RACGP as referred to above, for consideration. The Statutory Declaration must include a) the name and address of the Registrant; and b) information which fully addresses the circumstances and case for a refund. The Statutory Declaration must also be witnessed by a Justice of the Peace, Proclaimed Policy Officer or Commissioner for taking affidavits. Depending on the information or documentation provided with the appeal, the RACGP may refund the Registrant’s payment in whole or in part. The decision of the College will be final and within its sole and unfettered discretion.
Important Notes
- This course is open to registered medical practitioners.
- Participants are required to complete online Modules 1-4 as a prerequisite to attending Module 5: Dermatological Surgery and Procedures Workshop and undertaking the Clinical Attachment.
- Participants will need to ensure that they are available to attend the workshop to be held in Sydney on 27th – 29th March 2009.
- Completion of the Certificate is recommended within 1 year of registration. Participants who are unable to meet this timeframe may contact the Program Administrator, Certificate in Primary Care – Skin Cancer Management, RACGP, by email dermcert@racgp.org.au or freecall 1800 284 732 in relation to submitting a Request for Special Consideration for Extension.
- Participants are required to review the Terms and Conditions prior to registering in the course and acknowledge on their registration form acceptance of the Terms and Conditions
- This certificate is not included as a part of the RACGP membership package.
- Participants will be responsible for any additional costs incurred in relation to travel, accommodation and catering for the workshop and clinical attachment (excluding the lunch provided during the weekend practical workshop)
- Course fee covers access to College administration, online modules and help desk services, dermatologist review of case image submissions, face-to-face workshop and clinical attachment placement.
- Limited places are available in the course, with places allocated in order of receipt of registration. Candidates who do not secure a place within the October 2008 course intake will be given first opportunity to register for a place within the next course intake, and will receive advance notification of registrations opening prior to broad promotion of the program.
