Dr Srishti Dutta

I have always been actively involved and engaged as a member of the RACGP. After being selected to the colleges Future Leaders Programme my project got me looking at the equitable representation of members in leadership positions within the college and health leadership more widely. Particularly groups that are in some ways disadvantaged or have barriers to becoming involved in voluntary leadership roles such as with the college. This may include women, migrant doctors, and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.   “Be the change you want to see in the world “- Gandhi.  So I decided to join the state council to learn, represent, advocate and influence in an equitable and inclusive manner.  

As this is my first term on the Council, I hope to understand the roles and influence that I can have as a college representative and how I can best advocate for my profession and peers.   “Listen with the same passion with which you want to be heard”.

The ability to always have something new, something challenging and rewarding available as a clinician. If life as a GP guarantees me one thing I'll never be bored or idle - that is why I am still here.  

Every moment a patient shares a story or their vulnerability with me. It is a moment of such privilege and gratitude, that picking one would be unfair.  

Action precedes clarity - we are almost always, even in medicine afraid to try something new, it is only by taking the first step that you start to get somewhere. We need collective action and active engagement from every GP at a time of healthcare reform so we can contribute and shape the health system that will look after us when we most need it.  

My favourite meal so far in a restaurant in Australia was Kangaroo curry in Cairns, albeit I am a foodie that will try most things.
