Dr Noela Whitby AM

Find out more about her.

I joined Faculty Council in 2010 after 15 years on the National Practice Standards Committee of the RACGP, which I had also chaired.

I joined the Faculty Council to become more involved in the college at a local level. I had been involved in RACGP committees since gaining my fellowship, as well as an AMA Queensland representative. Being involved in GP organisations was attractive to me for the collegiality and advocacy which I found essential as a practice owner.
My objective has always been to have input in a very small way, into the future of general practice and to work will fellow GPs to that end.
General practice was attractive to me for its ability to provide whole person care. I find being  involved in  patient and family life stories a wonderful privilege. The best moments for me as a general practitioner are just too many to detail over a lifetime. Every week is still exciting and rewarding. The challenge of owning a successful practice and being a vital cog in the community is unmatched by other areas of medical practice.
My alternative career post year 12 would have been Music, majoring in harpsichord and pipe organ. So glad I chose Medicine.
