There is growing recognition of the different mental health issues and requirements facing women. Prof Kulkarni believes women’s mental health is different from men’s needs due to biopsychosocial factors yet there is a paucity of research looking specifically at women. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in women is an example that has been widely reported in the media recently and hence GPs are reporting a significant increase in patient inquiries. However, work force issues mean timely diagnosis and treatment from specialist services is difficult to get and expensive for patients. General Practice is well placed to diagnose and manage ADHD however this is work in progress.

In this session, we will clarify the guidelines for GPs who might be approached by patients for referrals and discuss how these new guidelines might affect those practising cosmetic procedures. Also, as of September 1st this year revised guidelines relating to telehealth will come into force. We touch on this topic as well.

Following on from the success of the Virtual Emergency Department service at Northern Health, Dr David Langford founded and trialed the “Medical Community Virtual Consult” service (MCVC) during Covid Pandemic and now it’s an ongoing concern. The aim of the MCVC is to foster reliable communication between primary care and medical specialists. GPs can book live telehealth appointments to discuss complex patients with a specialist team. Although the MCVC is a Northern Health initiative it is open to GPs from all over Victoria.
