"In Australia about 3.6 million people have some level of hearing loss. More than 1.3 million Australians live with a hearing condition that could have been prevented. More than 1 in 3 Australians have noise-related ear damage.” * There are many important causes and presentations of hearing loss, this webinar will mainly focus on progressive hearing loss associated with aging and the importance of recognising the social and emotional aspects of this type of hearing loss . General Practice is ideally placed to discuss hearing health with patients and help to reduce stigma associated with seeking help especially for age and noise related hearing loss. Vic Alt-Wednesday webinar - June - ADHD in Women - Gender blindness in psych research

There is growing recognition of the different mental health issues and requirements facing women. Prof Kulkarni believes women’s mental health is different from men’s needs due to biopsychosocial factors yet there is a paucity of research looking specifically at women. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in women is an example that has been widely reported in the media recently and hence GPs are reporting a significant increase in patient inquiries. However, work force issues mean timely diagnosis and treatment from specialist services is difficult to get and expensive for patients. General Practice is well placed to diagnose and manage ADHD however this is work in progress.

Vic Alt-Wednesday webinar - July - New cosmetic surgery and updated telehealth guidelines from Ahpra- How these changes may affect General Practice

As of July 1st this year, new Ahpra guidelines and rules relating to cosmetic surgery became live. There has been much confusion in the media about requirements for both practitioners and patients, in particular relating to referrals.  In this session, we will clarify the guidelines for GPs who might be approached by patients for referrals and discuss how these new guidelines might affect those practising cosmetic procedures.  Also, as of September 1st this year revised guidelines relating to telehealth will come into force. We touch on this topic as well.
