Supporting people living with dementia in primary care – Driving assessments and medication management

RACGP Specific Interests and Dementia Training Australia present a GP-friendly webinar series on the identification, treatment, and management in primary care to support people living with dementia.

In this webinar we will discuss driving assessments, including:

  • Starting the discussions early
  • Managing expectations
  • Assessment – using the tools
  • Role of the occupational therapist in assessment
  • Difficulties for people living in rural remote locations.

And medication management, including:

  • Deprescribing and reviewing cholinergic burden
  • Helpful medications for people living with dementia.

Presenters

Dr Steph Daly

Dr Daly is a GP specialist in dementia. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners and completed post-graduate training in Dementia Studies at the University of Bradford (UK). Since moving to Australia she has become an advocate for patients living with dementia and facilitated her practice to becoming one of the first dementia-friendly, and Dementia Australia approved, GP clinics in Australia. Dr Daly established and coordinates the Dementia Subgroup of RACGP Specific Interests Aged Care.

Dr Rebecca Moore
Medical educator – Dementia Training Australia

Dr Moore is a GP in Newcastle with a special interest in geriatrics and dementia. She is the currently working through the final stages of a Masters of Dementia, through the Wicking Research and Education Centre, University of Tasmania.

Prof Joseph Ibrahim
Medical specialist and academic in aged care

Prof Ibrahim has academic appointments at the Australian Centre for Evidence Based Aged Care, La Trobe University, and Monash University. He is a practising senior consultant specialist in geriatric medicine with over 30 years of clinical experience in a larger regional health service.
