Using telehealth in aged care

On-demand recorded 31 Aug 2023

This short webinar provides guidance for GPs delivering telehealth to patients in residential aged care facilities (RACFs). We discuss the benefits of using telephone and video consultations, and look to a post-pandemic future where telehealth will increasingly play a role in service delivery within aged care. The webinar provides succinct advice on deciding whether to use telehealth with a particular patient, setting up your space to provide telehealth, making modifications for patients with a sensory or cognitive impairment, and steps to take after the telehealth consultation. Billing information is also discussed. Join us for an informative session to enhance your telehealth skills with your older patients.

Learning outcomes

  1. Identify scenarios in which telehealth might be appropriately used with patients in residential aged care facilities (RACFs)
  2. Integrate telehealth into your practice with a checklist for procedures
  3. Develop a protocol that includes modifications for patients with a sensory or cognitive impairment
  4. Select MBS telehealth item numbers to suit the needs of your RACF patients
