Updates on reproductive carrier screening in general practice

On-demand recorded 22 Nov 2023

What does the new Medicare rebate mean for general practice?

On 1 November 2023 a new MBS item became available for GPs to request a three-condition reproductive carrier screening test (for fragile X, cystic fibrosis and spinal muscular atrophy). This webinar will help GPs understand the potential uses of this test for pre-conception and prenatal carrier screening.

Learning outcomes

  1. Discuss the role of reproductive carrier screening as part of preconception and prenatal care, and the potential reproductive choices available to carrier couples.
  2. Identify potential uses of and practical application of the new MBS item to order a three-condition reproductive carrier screening test for fragile X, cystic fibrosis and spinal muscular atrophy.
  3. Discuss the availability of and ways to offer expanded reproductive carrier screening to cover a larger number of rare inherited conditions.
