Speculum sabbatical – Supporting self-collection for cervical screening

Cervical screening can be uncomfortable for patients, leading to hesitancy and avoidance, but it is our most important tool as we work to eliminate cervical cancer.
By giving your speculum a sabbatical, you can offer a more patient-centered screening experience, eliminate discomfort, and improve screening rates.
This webinar, presented in partnership with the Department of Health and Aged Care’s National Cervical Screening Program, will equip GPs with the knowledge and skills to confidently guide patients through self-collection for cervical screening.
It will provide resources, expert insights, and practical tips, for you to support your patients through self-collection. Including:

Dr Lara Roeske
GP, Chair RACGP Specific Interests
Dr Lara Roeske is a current member of the Ministerial Advisory Group on Sexually Transmissible infections and Blood Borne Viruses (MACBBVSTI).
She is a GP and practice owner, Chair RACGP Specific Interests and RACGP Board Director and has held many senior positions at the RACGP, including Deputy Chair Victoria Council, inaugural Chair of RACGP Specific Interests Sexual Health Medicine group, and past Chair of the Women in General Practice RACGP Victoria committee.
With a career spanning more than 20 years, Dr Roeske has worked in advisory roles to key stakeholders, on steering committees, guideline working parties, representing the RACGP across a range of domains relevant to sexual and reproductive health, cervical cancer prevention and translation of evidence into practice at state and national levels.
Prof Deborah Bateson
Professor of Practice at The Daffodil Centre
Deborah Bateson is Professor of Practice at The Daffodil Centre, a joint venture between The University of Sydney and Cancer Council NSW, and formerly Medical Director at Family Planning NSW. Deborah has worked as a clinician, researcher, educator, and advocate in sexual and reproductive health for over 20 years with a focus on equitable access to cervical screening services and reproductive healthcare.
Deborah is leading an NHMRC study to increase cervical screening participation of people with intellectual disability, and is Chair of the National Cervical Screening Program Self-Collection Implementation Committee, Deputy Chair of the Quality and Safety Monitoring Committee and member of the Cervical Screening Guidelines Working Party.
