Hepatitis B in Primary Care

General practitioners play a crucial role in improving health outcomes for people with hepatitis B, through testing and guideline-based clinical management.
In 2021, an estimated 72,058 people were living with chronic hepatitis B in NSW, with 22% undiagnosed and 69% not engaged in regular care (Viral Hepatitis Mapping Project: National Report 2021). Guideline-based management and treatment of chronic hepatitis B can prevent liver cancer and death.
This webinar will discuss the important role primary care providers play in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of hepatitis B in the community.

Speakers
Dr Jason Behary
Hepatologist
Dr Behary is a Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist with special interest in managing patients with chronic liver disease, as well as General Gastroenterology and Endoscopy. He graduated from the University of Sydney with Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery and completed his training in a number of tertiary teaching hospitals in Sydney. Following this, he completed a PhD with the University of NSW, and has published several landmark papers in the field of liver disease and liver cancer. Dr Behary works as a Staff Specialist Gastroenterologist at St George Public Hospital and is also the current Co-Director of Physician Education (DPE) in the St George and Sutherland Physician Trainee Network.
Dr Joseph Nicholas
GP, MBBS (UNSW)
A graduate of University of NSW in 1980, Dr. Nicholas served his internship and residency at Concord and Westmead Hospital respectively. From 1982, Dr. Nicholas has been a General Practitioner in Fairfield Heights NSW and a part-time clinical Lecturer at Sydney University and University of Western Sydney. He is also the Chairman of AHMCC which operates Mobile Health Services to South Western Sydney and the Deputy Chair of the AMCL Co-op.
Dr. Nicholas has been managing Work and Motor Vehicle Accidents for over 35 years. And is actively involved in undergraduate teaching of Injury Management.
