Act Earlier – The impact of early lung health, diagnosis and interventions for patients at risk of COPD

On-demand recorded 15 Nov 2023

The 2023 theme for World COPD Day (15 November) was “Breathing is Life - Act Earlier". This year's theme aimed to highlight the importance of early lung health, early diagnosis and early interventions. Keeping lungs healthy is an integral part of future health and it is now more important than ever to act sooner.  We now know that there are many other factors besides tobacco smoking that can contribute to COPD and that it can start early in life and effect young individuals. In addition, GOLD have now identified precursor conditions that can provide new opportunities for early diagnosis and prompt treatment.

Learning outcomes

  1. Apply the additional criteria to improve COPD case finding, including the identification and diagnosis of patients at increased risk of developing COPD
  2. Describe the new classifications of COPD etiotypes to support early lung health and diagnosis
  3. Implement evidence-based COPD assessment tools and treatment algorithms in clinical practice
