RACGP Dermatological Surgery and procedures workshop - Melbourne

We invite you to join us for the 2-day small group practical Dermatological surgery and procedures workshop. Attendance is based on completing both days to receive a total of 9 hours Reviewing Performance CPD and 5 hours Educational Activity CPD.
Successful completion of Module 4 from the Certificate of Primary Care Dermatology is a pre-requisite for attendance.
Day one: basic procedures - biopsy, cryotherapy, curette, intralesional steroids, tips for good cosmesis, Procedure room setup.
Day two : Risk Management, Advanced Surgery, closure options by anatomical site, flaps.
When you register for this course you will be registered for both days.
You will be guided by a team of experienced dermatological specialists to practice the following techniques: cryotherapy, biopsies, curettage, intralesional steroid injection, suturing, flaps, and skin grafts.
Hands-on training is performed on artificial skins or pigs bellies.
This session will be held in East Melbourne, Victoria and another session will be held on 2 - 3 November in Sydney CBD.
This workshop is eligible for 1 day of Rural Procedural Grant - Surgical
Learning outcomes
- Analyse a range of dermatological surgical techniques used in general practice.
- Determine when to use non-surgical treatments for skin cancer, including complications and risks.
- Review set up of clinic for surgical procedures and other specific requirements.
- Perform a range various dermatological surgical techniques.
- Review strategies to implement risk management procedures.
- Analyse a range of advanced dermatological surgical techniques used in general practice.
- Review closure options by anatomical site.
- Perform different flap surgical techniques.

Dr Morton Rawlin
Dr Rawlin is a GP practicing in Melbourne. He is Adjunct Associate Professor, Department of General Practice, Sydney University, New South Wales. Morton developed a specific interest in skin and skin surgery while a rural GP and continues that interest and practice to this day. He was the inaugural chair of the Dermatology SIG and Founding Faculty Chair of the Specific Interest Faculty. He has a long history of giving education in dermatology and dermatological surgery at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and chaired the development of the RACGP GP Dermatology courses. In 2013, Morton received the Rose-Hunt Award, the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners’ most prestigious honour. In 2018 he was awarded an AM in recognition of his outstanding commitment to Australian general practice. Apart from his role as a general practitioner, he is also Medical Director for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Vic), Chair of the General Practice Mental Health Standards Collaboration (GPMHSC) and a board member of the Mental Health Professionals Network.
