Dr Susan Barnett
GP Counsellor
Dr Susan Barnett qualified as a Gp in 2003. She commenced formal Gp Counselling in 2014 after obtaining her FPS 2 certificate.
She has been working as a Gp and Gp Counsellor in a Private Practice in Bayside for over 14years. This year however, she decided to set up her own Private Consulting rooms as a Gp Counsellor. She also works for EVGPT as a Medical Educator for the GPT1 workshops and ECTVs. Susan is also currently the Education Chair for ASPM ( Australian Society Psychological Medicine). She is involved in providing educational activities that they run. Susan utilises a number of psychological strategies to assist her clients. Her emphasis is always focussed on educating her clients the importance of mind body connection - which is backed by current Neuroscience evidence. Her aim being to “de -pathologise” emotional distress and empower her clients to learn to respond in an emotionally healthier way. Susan aims to always provide a safe, nurturing and nonjudgmental patient centred approach for all of her clients. She has also been a presenter for numerous wellbeing talks over the last few years for private and corporate settings. She is also passionate about educating other Gps to become more confident in supporting clients who present with emotional issues. Susan is also a busy mother of 3 boys, 2 dogs and a supportive husband. She loves walking/ running and catching up with family/friends.
Karen Barnett
Accredited Mental Health Social Worker
Karen is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, with 15 years experience working in Public and Private Mental Health Settings.
She currently works part time in private practice in Bayside Melbourne, whilst also holding a Practice Development Clinician role for the Consultation, Liaison and Emergency Psychiatry service at The Alfred Hospital. Karen has vast experience in providing individual and peer group supervision. She has witnessed significant systemic changes in working with family violence in health settings since the Victorian Royal Commission and looks forward to sharing this practice wisdom with participants.
