‘Guide the future of the profession’: Health of the Nation returns
General practice workforce will be a major focus of this year’s survey, which helps to inform and support RACGP advocacy efforts.
The Health of the Nation survey has been described as a ‘really important opportunity’ for GPs to contribute to the profession and inform college advocacy.
Australia’s largest general practice survey will this year place a spotlight on workforce issues, specifically attracting and retaining GPs, the RACGP has confirmed.
Due to open on Friday 28 April, the survey will form the basis of the college’s annual General Practice: Health of the Nation report, which also uses publicly available data to provide annual insights into the sector and track trends over time.
Dr Michael Wright, Chair of RACGP Expert Committee – Funding and Health System Reform, told newsGP the survey is a ‘really important opportunity’ for GPs to contribute to the profession and inform college advocacy.
‘Health of the Nation has grown to be a crucial source of data to understand the challenges we’re facing and help us advocate on behalf of patients for a better funded general practice system,’ he said.
‘We know that since the pandemic, the financial and workforce challenges facing general practice have grown and it’s really important that we know what GPs are feeling and planning, and what we need in the workforce of the future.’
Members who complete the survey and answer a question about a particular experience that highlights what they most enjoy about general practice will have the chance to win a registration to WONCA 2023, which is set to take place in Sydney from 23–26 October.
The RACGP has also developed a new Reflective CPD activity that builds on the 2023 topic of interest. This activity is designed to provide members with the opportunity to reflect on their patient population, consider workflows, workforce capacity and utilisation, and the use of other practice support tools to improve workflow efficiencies.
‘Please take time to complete the survey,’ Dr Wright said.
‘Now more than ever, we need your input and insights to help us guide the future of the profession.’
The Health of the Nation survey will close at 11.59 pm (AEST) on 22 May.
