Heart failure and filling pressure – nuances of systolic vs diastolic heart failure and current Guidelines for Treatment

Session plan:

This session reviews and outlines the key changes in the current heart failure guidelines (Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand, American Heart Association and European Society of Cardiology) and what this means for GPs in clinical practice when prescribing.  Participants will explore new treatment options, how to initiate, monitor and optimise treatment, and when cardiology referral is recommended.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Differentiate between heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). 2. Outline current heart failure management guidelines and treatment options.
