Advanced Clinical Emergency Management Program - Adelaide

Please read the eligibility criteria before registering for this event. You must have completed or be enrolled in the Intermediate CEMP or equivalent to register for this course.

This highly interactive two day workshop have been designed to further build participants' knowledge, skills and confidence when responding to medical emergencies. It focuses on the management of life threatening emergencies and includes specific skills required to manage adult and paediatric trauma.

This course will assist practice staff in identifying and planning for emergency situations in general practice. Practice staff should be aware of what to do in case of a medical emergency. Whilst the medical care may ultimately reside with the general practitioners (GPs), there are various other responsibilities that need to be undertaken in cases of emergencies.

  • Strategies to address various types of emergencies
  • How to recognise an emergency patient
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • What to do if a patient collapses in the waiting area
  • The process of working with ambulance service in an emergency
  • How to support your GP following an emergency.

RACGP SA&NT is offering an accredited basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) course and an emergency general practice review to assist general practitioners with fulfilling their relevant requirements.


Course outline

This education session:

  • Covers advanced life support (ALS) and basic life support (BLS )
  • Practices coordinated resuscitation
  • Refreshes basic electrocardiogram (ECG) rhythm interpretation
  • Considers topical emergency presentations and recent changes in emergency practice.

Administering Iron Infusion Intravenously

Iron infusion (ferrous carboxymaltose) administered intravenously is recommended for treatment of iron deficiency, when oral iron preparations are ineffective or cannot be used. A maximum dose of 1000mg iron can be delivered safely intravenously, which does make it a suitable treatment in your practice.


Course outline:

  • How to diagnose iron deficiency based on laboratory tests
  • How to properly administer iron infusion
  • Indications for the use of iron infusion intravenously as opposed to oral iron supplements

  • Who should attend

    This course is targeted to both GPs and nurses.
