Managing Patients With Chronic Pain

One in five Australians live with persistent or chronic pain. Dr Chris Holmwood, Addiction Medicine Specialist, will provide multi-pronged approaches to manage and monitor patients who present with chronic pain.
Course outline:
- Manage and monitor patients who present with chronic pain conditions
- Understand the use of pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods to treat these conditions

Common Ear and Nose Presentations in General Practice

This interactive session will incorporate demonstrations and hands-on practice in assessment and management of common ear and nose presentations, including the use of otoscopes, tympanometry and audiograms. Presenters will include an ENT specialist, neurophysiotherapist and audiologist. GPs are asked to bring their otoscope if possible.
Workshop learning outcomes:
- Discuss assessment and management of dizziness
- List the red flags for causes of vertigo
- Outline the investigations for hearing loss
- Identify appropriate techniques for removal of foreign bodies in the ear and nose
- Review conditions requiring urgent referral to ENT specialists

2019.1 OSCE Preparation Course - Darwin
The RACGP SA&NT are pleased to announce the addition of the '2019.1 OSCE Preparation Course - Darwin' to further assist candidates with preparing for the 2019.1 RACGP Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). Lead by NT Assessment Panel Chair Dr Stratos Roussos, this course will include an in-depth review of the Aboriginal Health, VIVA and Physical Examination cases with interactive sessions facilitated by experienced NT Examiners and conclude with a Q&A session. This course has been developed to precede the 2019.1 Simulated OSCE Exam Workshop - Darwin on Saturday 13 April 2019.

Introduction To Point-of-care Ultrasound - Alice Springs
The 'Introduction to point-of-care ultrasound for rural GPs' Active Learning Module (ALM) is designed to support rural GPs to increase their understanding of the applications of point-of-care ultrasound in the diagnostic process. The training is delivered by rural GPs and sonographers who are experienced in using ultrasound in their practice environment.
This full-day ALM will give general practice registrars and rural & remote GPs the opportunity to identify practical applications of ultrasound technology in rural general practice settings and utilise point of care ultrasound devices under the guidance of experts.
The ALM is accredited for 40 QI&CPD Category 1 points and is also approved for the Rural Procedural Grants Program.
The ALM runs from 8.30am till 4.30pm and will be offered to RACGP members at $495 (incl. GST). Morning tea and lunch will be provided.

This course will assist practice staff in identifying and planning for emergency situations in general practice. Practice staff should be aware of what to do in case of a medical emergency. Whilst the medical care may ultimately reside with the general practitioners (GPs), there are various other responsibilities that need to be undertaken in cases of emergencies.
