Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Skills for General Practice

Online ALM via gplearning

This Active Learning Module provides GPs with foundational CBT skills and is ideal for GPs who wish to include CBT in their clinical practice. Whilst aimed at rural GPs, it will be a useful resource for any GP interested in gaining skills in psychotherapy.

The training comprises six interactive learning modules; each taking one hour to complete and can be completed at your own pace.

The ALM focuses on six areas:

  1. Introduction to CBT
  2. Assessment, formulation and treatment planning
  3. CBT in action: focus on depression
  4. CBT in action: focus on anxiety
  5. Challenges in CBT
  6. Additional considerations

GPMHSC FPS CPD approved. QI&CPD approved 40 Ct 1 points.

Focussed Psychological Strategies Skills Training

This RACGP Rural training package provides GPs with Foccussed Psychological Strategies Skills Training (FPS ST) enabling them to provide CBT-derived FPS conselling to patients. GPs who have previously completed Mental Health Skills Training (MHST) accredited by the GPMHSC are able to access MBS items for FPS services provided in their general practice upon completion of the training

Common Ocular Presentations and How To Manage Them Webinar

RACGP Rural is pleased to present the first webinar in our new rural health series - Look into my eyes: Common ocular presentations and how to manage them. Patients with eye complaints frequently present to GPs seeking diagnosis, triage and necessary management, however, due to a lack of ongoing training and non-availability of nearby specialists, ocular complaints and emergencies may present real diagnostic challenges to GPs in rural and remote communities. This webinar will provide GPs with practical knowledge, resources and confidence to competently manage common eye presentations and emergencies.

FPS CPD - A Case-Based Masterclass

This Focused Psychological Strategies CPD (FPS CDP) course has been designed to support GP providers of FPS to extend their skills. It consists of a series of thought-provoking, small group case-based discussion sessions facilitated by a GP with specialist experience in mental health. It is offered in an accessible teleconference format and comprises of four two-hour case-based discussion sessions.

Participants will be asked to register for a particular group.

Group 1 - 5:00pm-7:00pm (AEST) on Tuesdays the 17/9, 1/10, 15/10 and 29/10.
Group 2 - 7:30pm-9:30pm (AEST) on Mondays the 23/09, 07/10, 21/10 and 4/11.
Group 3 - 7:00am-9:00am (AEST) on Tuesdays the 24/9, 8/10, 22/10 and 5/11.
Group 4 - 7:30pm-9:30pm (AEST) on Thursdays the 10/10, 24/10, 7/11 and 21/11.

Cost: $295 for RACGP members and $345 for non-members.

This activity is accredited for 40 QI&CPD Cat 1 points and fulfils FPS CPD requirements.

The 'Introduction to point-of-care ultrasound for rural GPs' Active Learning Module (ALM) is designed to support rural GPs to increase their understanding of the applications of point-of-care ultrasound in the diagnostic process. The training is delivered by rural GPs and sonographers who are experienced in using ultrasound in their practice environment.

This full-day ALM will give general practice registrars and rural & remote GPs the opportunity to identify practical applications of ultrasound technology in rural general practice settings and utilise point of care ultrasound devices under the guidance of experts.

The ALM is accredited for 40 QI&CPD Category 1 points and is also approved for the Rural Procedural Grants Program.

The ALM runs from 8.30am till 4.30pm and will be offered to RACGP members at $495 (incl. GST). Morning tea and lunch will be provided.

Palliative Care for Rural GPs Webinar

This webinar will explore end of life care planning, the management of chronic disease, monitoring deterioration, and the use of medication for patients with end organ dysfunction at end of life.

He has a special interest in the alleviation of suffering and the improvement of death literacy in the community. He spends much of his time drinking coffee and riding bicycles... often while contemplating death.

Rural Hospital Clinical Simulation

The Rural Hospital Clinical Simulation (RHCS) aims to enhance patient safety and GP self-care by providing rural GPs with the opportunity to engage in a structured 6 hour active learning module (ALM) to discuss and simulate scenarios reflecting the many challenges rural GPs face when living and working in rural and remote communities. There will be a strong emphasis on emergency medicine situations, doctor self-care, coordinating and communicating with other healthcare professionals, stress management and debriefing. All the scenario cases to be included in the ALM have been written by experienced rural GPs from actual cases.
