Psychodynamic Principles - Part 1

The 'Psychodymanic priciples for general practitioners' workshop is designed to impart a detailed understanding of psychodynamic principles and their application in the treatment of common problems via focused psychological therapies, such as cognitive behaviour therapy and interpersonal therapy. Knowledge of these principles assists GPs in increasing their understanding of what patients are experiencing and how they can be helped.

Topics covered in this workshop include:
- transference
- counter transference
- addiction
- depression.


Attending this active learning module is recognised as meeting Focussed Psychological Strategies continuing professional development (FPS CPD) specific requirements.

This workshop is accredited for 40 Category 1 QI&CPD points for the 2017-19 triennium. Attending this workshop is a pre-requisite for Parts 2 and 3.

CPR Workshop - Brisbane - Tuesday 26 March 2019

This two-hour workshop, facilitated by BLS First Aid, will incorporate HLTAID001 'Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation' in accordance with the 2016 ARC Guidelines.

This workshop will cover:

  • DRSABCD Action Plan
  • management of the breathing, unresponsive casualty
  • management of the non-breathing, unresponsive casualty
  • resuscitation of an adult, child and infant
  • introduce the use of a defibrillator.

GPs who attend this workshop will meet the CPR requirement for the 2017-19 QI&CPD triennium.


*Please note: To complete assessment of CPR you must be physically able to perform two minutes of continuous CPR on the floor. If you are unable to do so due to physical limitations, please contact us to discuss your options to meet your CPR requirement.

61st Clinical Update Weekend

Registration is now open for the 61st Clinical Update Weekend, which will be held at Sofitel Brisbane Central on Friday and Saturday 3 - 4 May 2019 (Labour Day weekend).

This two-day event will offer education and collegiality for GPs and those working towards a career in general practice.

The Clinical Update Weekend is an annual event developed by RACGP Queensland for Queensland members.

Early bird registration is available until Friday 15 March 2019 allowing members and non-members to save $150.

Resistance and the anxiety disorders: a one-day workshop designed to impart a detailed understanding of psychodynamic principles and their application in the treatment of common problems via focused psychological therapies.

This workshop covers: Reinforcing the important principles of Part 1, the psychodynamics of resistance to improvement (defences) in all its manifestations in psychological treatment, understanding the anxiety disorders: new psychodynamic principles will be introduced and explored, and also previously discussed principles and their uses in anxiety disorders.
Pre-requisite: Psychodynamic principles for GPs Part 1.

This workshop is accredited for 40 Category 1 QI&CPD points for the 2017-19 triennium.

Psychodynamic Principles - Part 3 - Brisbane

Date: Saturday 27 July 2019
Mind and body: a one-day workshop designed to impart a detailed understanding of psychodynamic principles and their application in the treatment of common problems via focused psychological therapies.

This workshop is devoted to the mind-body interaction, covering: somatization and how the mind-body interaction results in symptoms and disease, and the psychodynamics of eating disorders and body image disorders. Understanding the psychodynamics of both mental and general illness, especially chronic illness and the role of the unconscious and conscious meaning the patient ascribes to various types of disorders and their medical treatment. What it means to be mentally well and the psychodynamics of wellness - a topic that has particular relevance not only to patients but also to GPs. Pre-requisite: Psychodynamic principles for GPs Part 1.

This workshop is accredited for 40 Category 1 QI&CPD points for the 2017-19 triennium.
